I often get asked why I do what I do and the answer is really no different that your answer; because I’m good at this.
I want to help small businesses get leads and do marketing because they probably didn’t get into business putting in flooring or updating windows or remodeling homes because you wanted to sell and market your business. You wanted to install flooring. Your trade and craft is making a floor look amazing. My trade is to help you look amazing and tempting to people who want and need your services.
It’s simple really. If you’re in business to install floors, you’re likely not good at marketing, and if you are good at marketing then you’d be marketing, not installing floors. I’m not good at installing floors, or at least I don’t think I am because I’ve never tried it and although it’s interesting for me to watch you do it, I’m really not passionate about installing flooring. I’d rather lead a customer to you that needs flooring, make sure they understand your offer and match their needs to your service.
When I got started doing online marketing, I wanted to do it all too, and there’s a good reason to do all aspects of your business when you start, however, as you get good at your trade and people start to see your work, you’ll get more business and then the other things that you don’t love (marketing, book keeping, hiring people, etc) all fall to the side because you’re focused on what you love; installing flooring. And that’d perfect, because you wanted to install flooring when you started this business. But as you grow, you need to find experts in those areas where you’re not, and let them be the expert for you so you can focus on your trade, and do the thing that you love.
As my business has grown, I’ve realized that I cannot do everything too, so I’ve found experts to help me in the areas that took a lot of my time and energy away from what I love to do. The beautiful part of the free enterprise environment is that you can find people who are experts at almost anything that you don’t want, or love to do and outsource that to them so you can focus on what you DO love to do. It makes everyone involved happier.
Why am I writing about this? Because when I talk to you about your business, I’m looking for the passion that you have for your trade and I want to give you a chance to share that trade with more people that need it. That’s my goal; to expose you to as many people as I can so you can grow your business, impact more people with your skills and make more people happy with your service. From my perspective it’s all about finding the right people with the right skills matched with the right customers so the end result is a win – win – win.
